Community

Societies: I am a current ISAC Marylou Ingram Scholar with the International Society for the Advancement of Cytometry (ISAC), and serve as the ‘Systems Cytometry’ & NSW representative of the Systems Immunology special interest group (SIG) of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Immunology. I am actively involved with a number of other societies and communities, including the Australasian Cytometry Society (ACS), the Oz Single Cell (OSC) consoritum, the Human Cell Atlas (HCA) community, and the Fluidigm Imaging Mass Cytometry (IMC) users community. I am also a member and grantee of the Marie Bashir Institute for Infectious Diseases and Biosecurity (MBI). With the Sydney Cytometry Core Facility, I also run the ‘Data Clinic’, a weekly analysis co-working and troubleshooting session, and co-lead the ‘high-dimensional and spectral’ users group meeting.

Peer review: I provide peer review for Nature Communications, Cytometry A, Cytometry B, Bioinformatics, Briefings in Bioinformatics, and Scientific Reports.

A selection of key activites with each society can be found below.

The International Society for the Advancement of Cytometry (ISAC)

I have been a member of ISAC since 2013, and a regular attendee and presenter at CYTO, ISAC's annual meeting. In 2017 I was awarded a prestigious Marylou Ingram Scholarship by the International Society for the Advancement of Cytometry (ISAC).

This five-year program recognises emerging leadership in the society, and provides funding support to ensure attendance at CYTO. I have also run a number of workshops at CYTO, and served on the program committee since 2018.

The Australasian Cytometry Society (ACS)

I have been a member of ACS since 2012, where am frequent invited speaker on topcs involving high-dimensional cytometry and analysis. I served on the ACS council as the Student Liason Officer for two years. In 2016 I was invited to participate as a speaker on the ACS 'Polychromatic Flow Cytometry Roadshow', a speaking tour visiting multiple cities across Australia and New Zealand, alongside Dr. Pratip Chattopadhyay from the NIH.

I was invited as a speaker on a subsequent roadshow in 2020 on 'High-Dimensional Analysis', alongside Dr. Felix Marsh-Wakefield and Givanna Putri from our team, which was converted to an online 'homeshow' due to COVID-19.

Human Cell Atlas (HCA)

I am actively involved in the Human Cell Atlas (HCA) community, including attendance at HCA general meetings in Hinxton, UK (2018), and Tokyo, Japan (2019), seeking to help define the contribution of high-dimensional cytometry and imaging technologies to the objectives of the HCA (Czechowska et al. 2018, WS06: 'Cytometry in the Era of the Human Cell Atlas').

I also presented on Spectre, one of our computational tools, at the HCA Asia meeting (virtual) in 2020.

The Australia and New Zealand Society for Immunology (ASI)

I have been a member of ASI since 2011, and a regular attendee and presenter at the ASI annual meeting. I currently serve as the NSW and 'Systems Immunology' representative of the Systems Immunology special interest group. In 2019 I was invited to an ASI special initiative - a meeting of ASI members in Dunedin, NZ, to discuss standards and approaches for the computational analysis of high-dimensional data analysis. In 2018 I was invited to speak in the Lafferty comedy debate event of the annual meeting, argueing for 'big data is better'.

Oz Single Cell

I have been a member of the Oz Single Cell consortium since it's inception in 2017, and have been a regular attendee and presenter at the annual meetings. In 2019 I was invited to speak on high-dimensional cytometry and imaging technologies at the annual meeting in Melbourne.

Subsequently, I was invited to present our work advanced computational analysis as part of the online webinar series in 2020.
